WEDDING DETAILS
- The wedding will be held on the Sunday of next Memorial Day weekend, May 24, 2009, in Glasgow, Kentucky.
- The ceremony will take place in Joe and Mary Hall Goodman's backyard at 203 Uncle John's Lane in Glasgow at 4:30 pm. It will be co-officiated by Minister Jim McLean and Rabbi Donna Adler, representing the faiths of both families.
- After the ceremony, there will be a brief reception in the backyard before everyone heads over to the Glasgow Country Club for the main reception.
- In the event of rain, the ceremony and reception will both take place at Glasgow Country Club.WEEKEND EVENTS
- We encourage guests to plan to be in Kentucky from Friday, May 22, to Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day), as there will be several activities, planned and unplanned, over the weekend. If you are able to arrive before Friday, please let us know.
- Friday evening, we will host an informal "Welcome to Kentucky" get together with food and libations at the Four Seasons Country Inn Bed and Breakfast.
- On Saturday, visitors will have the opportunity to spend the day exploring area attractions including:
- Nashville (Grand Ole Opry, the huge Opryland complex, Music Row, the Country Music Hall of Fame)
- Louisville (Churchill Downs, Mohammed Ali Center, Louisville Bats Minor League Baseball, and the Louisville Slugger Museum)
- Lexington (Woodford County, which includes Versailles and the Woodford Reserve distillery, Keeneland, and Thoroughbred Heritage Tours)
- A visit to Bardstown, Ky., home to numerous distilleries and My Old Kentucky Home state park
- Golf at Glasgow Country Club or other local courses. Please contact Jill if you are interested in this option. We would like to organize a game for Sunday morning if there is interest.
- Mammoth Cave, the world's longest cave system with over 365 miles underground
- Boating in nearby Barren River State Park
- Please visit the Kentucky Tourism website for more information.
- Saturday evening, there will be a party at the Nelson family's farm (3047 Dripping Springs Rd. in Glasgow). Directions will be included with invitations to the wedding. We hope you can make it, as Jill's father Joe Goodman's band, the infamous No Bottom Boys, will be playing.
- As mentioned above, the wedding ceremony will begin at 4:30 pm on Sunday.GETTING THERE
- Glasgow is in the south central part of the state, about an hour and a half drive from Nashville (airport code:BNA) and Louisville (SDF); a scenic but slightly longer drive from Lexington (LEX); and a four hour drive from Cincinnati (CVG). Our suggestion is to price shop for the airport that will work best from your departure city, as well as incorporate some sights you hope to see while in Kentucky.
- A recent round of phone calls to car rental companies at Nashville airport found Budget to be the most economical option, with rates at around $70 for Friday through Monday. They can be reached at (615) 366-0822.
- Glasgow is on Central Standard Time, an hour behind Eastern Standard Time. Glasgow is actually very close to the border of Eastern and Central time. Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati are all in the Eastern time zone, while Nashville, like Glasgow, is on Central time.
- According to MapQuest, the drive from New York City to Glasgow takes about 13 and a 1/2 hours.
- Glasgow recently changed from a dry town to a "moist" town, meaning that you are now allowed to order an alcoholic beverage in a handful of local restaurants. We will provide a small bar at the bed and breakfast. However, if you would like to buy something for your room, please stop at a store near the airport.
ACCOMMODATIONS
There are several housing options for guests from out of town.
- Visitors who wish to stay in scenic cottages will enjoy nearby Barren River Lake State Resort Park. Two bedroom, two bathroom cottages with kitchens range in price from about $190-$230 per night. A block reservation has already been placed. Call the park at (800) 325-0057.
- Barren River Park also offers individual rooms in its lodge. Presently, we do not have rooms reserved as we expect there to be plenty of availability. Read more about the cottages and the lodge, as well as see photos here.
- Cave City is a 15-20 minute drive from Glasgow, and offers several hotel chains, including Best Western ((270) 773-3161), Super 8 ((270) 773-2500), and Comfort Inn ((866) 573-4235).
- All 21 rooms at the Four Seasons Country Inn Bed and Breakfast in Glasgow are now booked, though in a pinch you may want to call them at (877) 806-6340 to see if there have been cancellations. Hall Place Bed and Breakfast is also fully booked. Hall Place is a refurbished house originally built in 1852, furnished with antiques. Call (866) 651-3176.

Hey Jill!! Congrats to you !
Amber Brooks Leeson
Thanks Jill and Zack for this very informative website! Can't wait!
Anyone want to talk about car-sharing? My husband, baby, and I are leaving EARLY Monday morning to get to Nashville and would have room for two more mid-sized adults :-) We will have a carseat in the middle of the backseat, so it may not be the world's most comfortable ride, but it wouldn't be terrible. We'll try to rent something with a good trunk.
We are arriving into Nashville on Saturday evening. We'd be happy to split the car with anyone who needed a roundtrip (Saturday evening, Monday early morning) or just one way.
J & Z,
Thanks, I had a great time at the wedding. Such a beautiful day and good people. here is a link to some of the photos.
